Breaking News!

Supernatural got an early renewal for season 7!

Here's the first link I saw with the full press release, but Creation Entertainment gets credit for getting to me first. :)

So what does everyone think? I know there will probably be much of the same debate as last season, especially because season 6 hasn't had the cohesiveness of past seasons. But I, for one, am just glad we don't have to say goodbye to the boys yet. :) And that we won't have a massive cliffhanger with no resolution. And I think this year has some of the best acting and writing of all the seasons, so I do look forward to one more!

SPNews

The big news this week comes from PaleyFest:

TV Overmind has a must-read write-up of the festival, including some fun behind-the-scenes info on The French Mistake, as well as great tidbits about the show in general. Some highlights: Bobby almost didn't make it on the show, there's going to be an episode entirely from Castiel's POV and it's Ben Edlund's directorial debut and the finale will be two back-to-back episodes, the first written my Sera, the second written by Kripke!

The Examiner offers another review. Here's another review of PaleyFest. Most interesting scoop - Dean's jacket is MIA because it was stolen at a photoshoot.

Eep! Entertainment Weekly talks about the finale. Nothing really spoiled, but apparently they've saved the scariest for last. We better get a season 7 because they promise it's one heckuva cliffhanger.

An Inner Space video interview with Jared and Jensen discussing Season 6.

Entertainment Weekly's TV Survival Scorecard for returning shows has Supernatural in the "Could Go Either Way" column. Let's see a renewal already CW!

A disgruntled SPN fan write's TV Guide's Matt Rousch for his opinion on Season 6.

E! Online's Watch with Kristin talks about the likelihood of a seventh season.

TV Guide talks about the season finale. Bad news - "two unexpected deaths." Good news - Kripke says, "We're actually enjoying that, for the first time in a long time, the brothers are a really strong, cohesive unit, so we're going to keep them like that for the foreseeable future."

Hope that last bit of news keeps you happy for awhile. :)

The CW has scheduled two back-to-back episodes to end the season on May 20.

Finally! There is going to be a main cast member from Supernatural at Dragon*Con this year. Yes, Mark Sheppard was there last year and he's back again this year, but we're also getting Misha Collins! Tanya and I will be there with bells (Hell's bells?) on.

Jared will be dubbing the Supernatural anime.

Supernatural News

Of course the big news for the week was the premiere of the sixth season of Supernatural. Yay! If you Google "Supernatural" now, you'll get links to a million and one (okay, slight exaggeration) recaps and commentaries on the the premiere episode, "Exile on Main Street." From what I've read, there seems to be some consensus that something is definitely up with Grandpa Campbell and the oddball Campbell cousins.

I was worried about a falloff in viewership with the move to Friday, but the ratings held steady with last year's with 2.8 million viewers. I wonder if it might be helped a bit by science fiction fans who are used to having Friday night be their domain but are facing the odd decision by SyFy to move Caprica and Stargate Universe to Tuesdays so they can air WWE wrestling on Friday nights. Seriously, wrestling?

Confirmation that all is also not right with Sam. Dude, I hope it's really Sam, and he eventually gets back to his awesome Sammy self.

A glimpse at this week's episode, "Two and a Half Men" (which also happens to be the name of hubby's favorite TV show).

Julie McNiven (Anna the angel) will be headed to Stargate Universe this season as a love interest for Eli. Cool! I heart Eli.

Here are a handful of reviews for the Supernatural Original Television Soundtrack 1-5. The CDs do not include the classic rock tunes we often discuss, but rather the musical pieces crafted specifically for the show.

Look for Taylor Cole, who played art collector Sarah Blake on SPN (Provenance), as a series regular in the new drama, The Event. In this DFW interview she brags that she’s one of very few people who actually know what The Event is.

SPN Sister M.J. talks about casting books on the Romance Bandits blog. She cast Jared and Adrienne Palicki as the leads in her novel, Sunrise Over Texas. Check out the cover resemblance to Jared!

Chad Lindberg (Ash) is making news with his turn in the controversial, unrated remake of I Spit On Your Grave, which has a limited release next month. The 1978 original, rape and revenge movie, was banned worldwide and Roger Ebert called it a "a movie so sick, reprehensible and contemptible that I can hardly believe it's playing in respectable theaters." The remake sounds just as hard-core as stories have been floating around the internet of viewers fainting and vomitting during the showing. Much as I like Chad, this isn't my kind of film. You can check out early reviews on IMDB to see if it's something you can stomach. But I'll be watching to see if Ebert reviews this remake after giving the original ZERO stars.

The CW Connect has posted a new video interview with Misha Collins.

[For some infuriating reason Blogger isn't allow me to paste text so I've been trying to post this little bit of news for way too long! Now retyping....]

News was really scarce this week ~

The CW is all atwitter about sweeps weeks so they're inviting viewers to "watch and tweet" with their favorite stars. Misha will be tweeting from 9:00-10:00 PM on Friday, May 7.

Entertainment Weekly's Ausiello has posted a freakin' hilarious, exclusive clip of this week's Two Minutes to Midnight. Warning: It does answer the "will he or won't he?" question regarding Bobby's soul.

Finally, I leave you with this adorable pic of Jensen and Danneel at the premier of The Back-Up Plan. (She plays J.Lo's nemesis.) Rumor has it May is their big month!

SPN News for Blessed End of Final, Interminable Hiatus

Warning: At the bottom, I list the upcoming episode titles. If you consider them spoilers, stop reading when you see ~~~~~~~~~~~.

In season finale news, it turns out a woman is needed to ground Sam and Dean in their bodies, because they are only sufficiently strong vessels if their souls don't check out (it's not just a body thing), but their love for her is also what keeps them from saying "yes."

Okay, I totally made that up. Pure fantasy, but wouldn't it be cool to be that woman?

In REAL season finale news, it will air May 13. Which anyone who can count already knew, but now it's official. For the fourth year in a row I'll be on retreat and unable to watch, but thank God the facility has wi-fi, and I'll be downloading from iTunes and watching with my fellow obsessives on Friday.

The show finally returns this Thursday and will run nonstop through the remaining 8 episodes, so that's something we can all be thankful for.

In one of my Google alerts, I glimpsed a question about the season finale that was so upsetting I quickly clicked past the alert and didn't explore to find out if that was just a random fan speculating, or actual spoiler news. Unfortunately, it's been burned into my brain...

That's two months away, though. Closer is episode 15, "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid." Support Supernatural has clips on their YouTube Channel. (Note: Support SPN indicates this is episode 5.16; The CW's website labels one of the clips episode 5.14, but math and IMDb tell us it's definitely 5.15.)

SFX awarded Misha Collins "Man of His Word of the Week" for being totally awesome. Scroll down for the paragraph on him, or just go here for the reason for the award.

Buddy TV has a short interview with Jared at the 100th episode party (with audio).

Jason Manns is doing an East Coast Tour this week! You remember Jason, he's a friend of Jensen's who sometimes plays at Creation's Salute to Supernatural conventions. His song was on Sam's iPod when Dean got into the Impala for the first time after returning from Hell. He'll be in DC on Wednesday, Philadelphia on Friday, and New York City on Saturday, and he'll be selling his new album. He also has a role in the film Rock Slyde, starring Patrick Warburton, soon available at Netflix.

The new issue of Supernatural: Beginning's End is out! This comic mini-series is set while Sam is in college, before the Big Break with his dad. Each issue is like an episode of the show, very classic, and this month's features a very funny storyline. This is my favorite of the three comics series. Pick it up at your local comic store today!

Do you hi-def? The first season of Supernatural will be released on Blu-Ray on June 15. It has a few new special features that the first set didn't have (Devil's Road Map, Paley Festival panel discussion).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Upcoming episode titles:
5.15 Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid
5.16 Dark Side of the Moon
5.17 99 Problems
5.18 Point of No Return
5.19 Hammer of the Gods
5.20 Let the Games Begin
Supernatural News for the Second-to-Last Week of Hiatus
Thanks to MJ for feeding me so many links this week! :) She's responsible for, like, three-quarters of this post!
Including this BREAKING NEWS! Okay, it broke Saturday. Ausiello at EW.com has a post quoting Dawn Ostroff as saying Kripke is warming to a sixth season. She certainly sounds in favor of it, and as some "experts" have pointed out, their slate and track record are hurting bad, so they'll want Supernatural back. "Success" at the CW is crash-and-burn anywhere else, and thank goodness for that! (The day after Ausiello posted, The TV Addict posted a short interview with Dawn Ostroff.)
Check out The People's Choice Awards, in which Supernatural won Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show!
Next, we have to post The Second Biggest News: Jared is definitely engaged to Genevieve.
More awards. And end-of-year accolades, and here and here and here.
Spoilers here. I didn't look. :)
There's a Mr. Twitter contest going on. When I compiled this, Misha Collins was at #3, Jim Beaver at #5, Rob Benedict(?) (Chuck) at #7, Chad Lindberg (Ash) at #10, and Colin Ford(?) (Young!Sam) at #11. (Note: (?) means these are not verified accounts, and I personally have seen or heard nothing that confirms they are the actual actor instead of fan imposters. Misha and Jim I'm pretty certain are accurate, but I wouldn't, like, bet my life on it or anything. :) ) ETA: I've been contacted by someone who knows Chad who says this is his actual Twitter account, and additional research bears it out. :)
I got an e-mail about a podcast Todd Stashwick did. I haven't listened yet, and it sounds like he only briefly mentions Supernatural, but if you're interested: (links to iTunes) or (links to pause.com).
And finally, Support Supernatural is launching its 2010 campaign. This site has a dual purpose: raising awareness of the show, and raising money for charity. In 2009 they were approached to support A Dog's Life Rescue, a pet (get it?) charity of Jared Padalecki's, and they raised around $17,000 for them. Their goal in 2010 is $30,000, and Creation Entertainment has joined in to help them. Which means you can win some really cool sh**. :) Check it out!
